Origin of the Erasmus project
The Erasmus program originated in 1987 as an initiative by the European Community to support student exchanges within European Community to support student exchanges within European universities. It was named after the Dutch scholar Erasmus, known for his work on education and international exchange. The program aimed to promote cultural understanding, cooperation and mobility among European students by providing opportunities for studying abroad. Since then, it has evolved and expanded into what is now known as Erasmus+, encompassing not only student exchanges but also opportunities for staff mobility, vocational training, and other educational initiatives.
